Roof fall accidents decline, but remain leading cause of coal miner injuries

Agency inspectors are specifically addressing best practices for preventing roof fall accidents, which include the following:

  • Closely monitor coal rib deterioration which may occur after mining.
  • Install rib bolts, which provide the best protection against rib falls.
  • Follow the approved roof control plan to address adverse conditions that may be present.
  • Use straps, pizza pans or screen wire mesh where loose roof/ribs may be encountered.
  • Conduct thorough examinations and watch for changing roof/rib conditions.
  • Ensure that pillar dimensions and mining methods are suitable for the conditions and roof/rib control methods are adequate for the depth of cover.

Toxic and Hazardous Substances OSHA 1910.1001

New OSHA regulations for Toxic and Hazardous Substances go into effect on June 1st 2016. Are you ready?

Occupational Safety and Health Standards standard number 1910.100 applies to any chemical which is known to be present
in the workplace in such a manner that employees may be exposed under normal conditions of use or in a foreseeable
emergency. For more information visit https://www.osha.gov/

Why buy an OSHA style header sign vs. an ANSI style?

It may be helpful to know that even though OSHA has adopted updated sign layouts as part of its standards, both sign styles continue to be compliant with OSHA Hazard Communication Standard.

For example, in the OSHA 1910.1001 standard related to asbestos work areas, going into effect as of June 1, 2016 has specific language that is required in a sign’s legend but common designs do not use pictograms or symbols and both DANGER header styles meet the requirements. It is your choice which to use.

following legend:
